LINCOLN - archive from 13th February 2013

Saw 'LINCOLN' last night and what a epic cinematic experience Spielberg has created once again. Give it to this guy - he is a master storyteller, his eye for detail is clinical and his casting a stroke of genius!
With Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role his turn here is mesmerising and as pin-point accurate as you could probably get - a sure Oscar winner. Ably supported by a strong cast taking in Tommy Lee-Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Strathairn, James Spader, Sally Field and much more fine acting talent, this movie's strength is in the dialogue, the considered approach, and the Directors deft touch for historical accuracy to create the mood and the history making political agenda of the time.

A must see film worthy of its 12 Oscar nods, the work in front and behind the camera, and the significance of this four month snapshot of a turning point in American history. A Spielberg touchstone (again!). Subsequently we know that in 2013 Daniel Day-Lewis picked up the golden statue for Best Actor and the film picked up the award for Best Production - not surprising on both counts, but it also lost out on many other of its Academy Award nominations. That said, overall it took in an impressive haul, with 71 other awards wins from various other august global film industry panels, and a further 118 nominations.
If you haven't seen this film already - rent it out soon, and do yourself a favour!
