Christian Charles Philip Bale was born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales to English parents. His mother Jenny James was a circus performer and his father David Charles Howard Bale was a commercial pilot and talent manager. His childhood years were spent in various locations from Wales to southern England to Portugal to the United States. He attended Bournemouth Boys Grammar School and left at 16. The next year he moved to Los Angeles with his father when his parents divorced in 1991.

His first screen acting role came in a fabric softener television commercial in 1982 and then a 'Pac-Man' breakfast cereal advertisement a year later. In 1984 he played for the first time in a theatre production opposite Rowan Atkinson in 'The Nerd' on London's West End. With work coming in as an up & coming Actor he auditioned for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the Central School of Speech and Drama and was offered a place by all three institutions to study his craft but was convinced by his parents at the time to continue working - a decision he regrets still to this day!

His big screen debut came in in 1986 in the television film 'Anastasia : The Mystery of Anna' which quickly led to a starring role in in the television mini-series 'Heart of the Country', and then the fantasy film 'Mio in the land of the Faraway' opposite Christopher Lee. It was the 'Anastasia : The Mystery of Anna' movie that brought the young Bale to the attention of Steven Spielberg who cast him in his breakout role in 1987's 'Empire of the Sun'. This brought Bale much critical acclaim, winning too the inaugural award by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures for the Best Performance by a Juvenile Actor.

The success of 'Empire of the Sun' Bale found hard to adjust to and almost gave up acting as a career choice there & then. Kenneth Branagh however, convinced him to take a role in the 1989 big screen telling of Shakespeare's 'Henry V' with a critically acclaimed all star cast. From there he starred with Charlton Heston in 'Treasure Island', in Disney's 'Newsies' with Robert Duvall, 'Swing Kids' with Kenneth Branagh again, and then 'Little Women' with Wynona Ryder who introduced Bale to his future wife in 1994. He returned to Disney in 1995 to provide the voice for Captain John Smith in the animated feature 'Pocahontas' and in 1997 he played alongside Ewen McGregor in 'Velvet Goldmine'.

He saw out the decade and saw in the new with another big screen adaptation of Shakespeare in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' with again an all star cast and 'All the Little Animals' with John Hurt. This was followed up by his turn as Patrick Bateman in 'American Psycho'. In it Bale inhibited his character of the deranged murdering Wall Street executive for which he trained obsessively to develop his body and prepare his mental state to match that of his character as depicted in the Brett Easton Ellis book.

Next up came 'Shaft' alongside Samuel L. Jackson, 'Captain Correlli's Mandolin' with Nicolas Cage and then in quick succession came 'Laurel Canyon', 'Reign of Fire' and 'Equilibrium'. 2004 saw Bale back to prominence as Trevor Reznik in 'The Machinist' - a role for which he slimmed down drastically by 63lbs (27kgs) to a body weight of just 128lbs (55kgs) by taking a crash diet and going without sleep for prolonged periods.

His next role was the polar opposite requiring Bale to regain all those lost kilos and bulk up considerably gaining 105lbs (45kgs) in muscle in six months to play the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan's 2005 'Batman Begins'.  The success of this brought two hugely successful sequels in 2008 with 'The Dark Knight' and then again in 2012 with 'The Dark Knight Rises'. The three films together and as a complete package, and singularly, were received to both critical and commercial acclaim generating US$2.5B in Box Office and after sales receipts off a total production cost of US$585M.

In the meantime, and since, there has been 'The New World' and 'Harsh Times' in 2005; 'Rescue Dawn' and 'The Prestige' in 2006; '3:10 to Yuma' and 'I'm Not There' in 2007; and then 'Terminator : Salvation' and 'Public Enemies' in 2009. 'The Fighter' in 2010 with Mark Wahlberg brought more critical success, leading to 'The Flowers of War' in 2011, 'Out of the Furnace' and 'American Hustle' in 2013 and most recently 'Exodus : Gods and Kings' with Director Ridley Scott in 2014 and still on general release. Next up is Terrence Malick's 'Knight of Cups' with Cate Blanchett due for release later this year, and an as yet untitled project for the same Director which is currently in post-production. Then will come 'Creed of Violence' and 'Jungle Book : Origins' for 2016/17.

Bale has 48 acting credits to his name and a total 59 award wins and a further 58 nominations. He won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for 'The Fighter' and was nominated for Best Actor for 'American Hustle'. The same was true of the Golden Globes and he was nominated similarly at the BAFTA's.

He has been married to Sandra 'Sibi' Blazic since 2000 and together they have a daughter Emmaline born in 2005 and a son born in mid-2014. He is an active supporter of 'Greenpeace', the 'World Wildlife Fund' and he and his wife sit on the Board of Trustees of the 'Dian Fossey Gorilla Foundation'.

Christian Bale - intense character Actor going to extraordinary lengths to portray the physical, mental and emotional states of his roles; often teams up with Christopher Nolan and Terrence Malick; a natural at putting on an accent - American especially; and often plays either historical roles or those of fractured, obsessive, detached and lonely characters and always with conviction and intensity. Happy Birthday to you from Odeon Online.

Hugh Michael Jackman was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to Grace McNeil and Christopher John Jackman. Both English, he is the youngest of five children. His parents moved to Australia just before his birth in 1968, as part of the 'Ten Pound Pom' programme. When he was eight years of age his parents divorced and his mother returned to England to live with his two sisters, leaving him, his two brothers and his Accountant Father in Australia.

Jackman attended Pymble Public School and then Knox Grammar School where he starred in the 1985 production of 'My Fair Lady', and in 1986 he became the School Captain. After graduating from school he spent a gap year working at Uppingham School in England, and following his return he attended the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and graduated from there in 1991 with a BA Degree in Communications. In his last year at UTS he took drama classes to earn extra credits, and after finishing there he spent a year at the Actors Centre in Sydney completing 'The Journey'. This lead to an offer to star in the popular TV Series 'Neighbours' which he turned down to attend the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts at Edith Cowan University in Perth - from which he graduated in 1994.

His first major role came in a ten part drama series for the ABC in 1995, 'Correlli' - which ended after its first season. From there though he gained more TV work starring in 'Blue Heelers', 'The Man from Snowy River' and 'Halifax f.p.' but it was 1999 that gave him his breakout film roles in 'Erskineville Kings' and 'Paperback Hero'. In the meantime Jackman had been treading the boards and gaining a following for his lead role in the West End stage production of 'Oklahoma'. As the century drew to a close, he was cast in a film in 1999 that would cement his big screen career forever - Bryan Singer's 'X-Men' released in 2000 as brooding, angry, tormented and clawed Wolverine. He would go on to reprise this role another six times to date in 'X2', 'X-Men : The Last Stand', 'X-Men Origins : Wolverine', 'X-Men : First Class', 'The Wolverine' and most recently 'X-Men : Days of Future Past'.

2001 gave him three roles - in 'Kate & Leopold' with Meg Ryan, 'Someone Like You' with Ashley Judd and 'Swordfish' with John Travolta. Following 'X2' in 2003 he appeared as monster slayer Gabriel Van Helsing in 'Van Helsing' to mixed reviews, but his rapidly rising star status brought 'The Prestige' in 2006 with Christian Bale, Michael Caine, David Bowie and Scarlett Johansson. That same year also saw 'The Fountain' with Rachel Weisz, the Woody Allen offering of that year 'Scoop' with Scarlett Johansson again and 'X-Men : The Last Stand'. In closing out 2006 he also lent his voice talents to animated feature films 'Happy Feet' and 'Flushed Away'.

2008 brought in 'Deception' and then Baz Luhrmann's epic historical period drama 'Australia' with Nicole Kidman. Leading on from this 'X-Men Origins : Wolverine' came out in 2009 and 'X-Men : First Class' in 2011 with 'Les Miserables', 'The Wolverine', 'Prisoners' and 'X-Men : Days of Future Past' bringing us up to date. For future release there is 'Chappie' and 'Pan' both currently in post-production for a 2015 release, 'Broadway 4D' currently filming, 'X-Men : Apocalypse' in pre-production for a 2016 release and recently announced 'The Greatest Showman on Earth' and another as yet untitled Wolverine sequel for 2017.

He has 48 acting credits to his name, and has garnered so far 18 award wins and 55 nominations for his stage and screen performances. These include an Academy Award nomination for 'Les Miserables'; a Golden Globe win for 'Les Miserables' and a nomination for 'Kate & Leopold'; a BAFTA nomination for 'Les Miserables'; a Primetime Emmy win for his hosting of the '58th Annual Tony Awards' and two other nominations; and two Tony Awards for 'The Boy from Oz' and a special award granted in 2012.

Whilst making films he has also enjoyed a reasonably successful stage career too with 2002's 'Carousel', 'The Boy from Oz' in 2003, 2004 and 2006, 'A Steady Rain' in 2009, 'Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway' in 2011 and 'The River' in 2014. He hosted the Tony Awards four times, Saturday Night Live and the Academy Awards. In 2005 he formed his own Production Company - Seed Productions with good friend John Palermo and wife Deborah-Lee Furness - based in Sydney their intention is to make modest budget films harnessing local Australian talent.

Off stage and screen Jackman is a long time advocate of 'microcredit'; a Global Advisor of the 'Global Poverty Project'; a 'World Vision' ambassador; a patron of the 'Bone Marrow Institute of Australia' and in 2009 he used his Twitter account to donate AU$100K to 'Charity : Water' and 'Operation of Hope'. Also that year he and 'A Steady Rain' co-star Daniel Craig raised US$1.55M from curtain call donations in support of 'Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS'.

Jackman is a long time supporter of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles NRL Team, he plays the piano, can swing a golf club, has been known to windsurf and practises yoga and transcendental meditation. He married Deborah-Lee Furness in 1996 and they have two adopted children - Oscar Maximillian and Ava Eliot.

Hugh Jackman - multi-talened showman of stage and screen, song & dance man, true-blue ocker Aussie at heart, handsome, charming and superhero-esque, Happy Birthday to you, from Odeon Online.

Christopher Jonathan James Nolan was born in England to an American father and English mother and grew up spending his time between London and Chicago.

At age seven he began making short movies with his father on a Super-8 camera, and by age eleven he had already decided upon a movie making career. While studying English Literature at University College London he shot 16mm films which led to his first feature film in 1998 - 'Following' made for the princely sum of US$6,000. Whilst at college he made two short films - in 1989 - 'Tarantella' and 'Larceny' in 1995, followed by 'Doodlebug' in 1997. It was however, 'Following' that began to put Nolan in the spotlight gaining some recognition from the film festivals at which it was shown. This small independent low budget offering did enable him to secure enough support to make his next feature - the highly acclaimed 'Momento' with Guy Pearce and Carrie-Anne Moss in 2000. This received critical acclaim and did well on the awards circuit - so much so that it led to his next offering, the 2002 psychological thriller 'Insomnia' starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank.

Nolan's turning point came though in 2005 when he was given the chance to reboot, revive and reimagine the DC Comics 'Batman' franchise which he did admirably over three successive films starting with 'Batman Begins' with Christian Bale in the lead role as our Caped Crusader!. This was followed by 'The Prestige' in 2006 about rival magicians starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, and then 2008 brought 'The Dark Knight' - the second in his Batman canon which grossed in excess of US$1B globally and also garnered many awards and nominations along the way.

Riding on the success of this Nolan made 'Inception' in 2010 - a film that he had written and had been in gestation for many years. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role this mind-bending, thought provoking, much debated Sci-Fi thriller earned over US$800M at the global box office and again gathered many awards and nominations in its wake.

2012 bought the conclusion of his Batman trilogy with 'The Dark Knight Rises', which like its predecessor earned in excess of US$1B at the box office, and has cemented Nolan as "one of the most innovative story tellers and image makers at work in movies today".

Nolan Writes, Produces and Directs most of his films and acted as Producer on last years 'Superman : Man of Steel' and this years 'Transcendence', with an Executive Producer credit on the 2016 'Batman vs Superman : Dawn of Justice'. His eight films to date have grossed in excess of US$3.5B at the global box office. He and Sam Raimi are the only Directors to film three live action Comic Book adaptations of the same character ('Batman' and 'Spiderman' respectively), and after James Cameron, Nolan is the second Director only to make two films that have grossed more than US$1B ('The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'). He owns a London based Production company - 'Syncopy' which he runs with his wife Emma Thomas.

From eight films he has a global box office haul of over US$3.5B and has earned 116 award wins and 109 other nominations, including three Academy Award nominations for Best Picture ('Inception') and Best Original Screenplay ('Momento' and 'Inception'); three Golden Globes nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay ('Inception') and Best Original Screenplay ('Momento'); and three BAFTA nominations all for 'Inception' in the categories of Best Director, Best Film and Best Original Screenplay.

Next up for Nolan is 'Interstellar' due for release in November this year - a Sci-Fi epic that depicts "a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding" and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain . . . can't wait!

Christopher Nolan - multi-talented, highly acclaimed, visionary film maker, Happy Birthday to you from Odeon Online.
