Marc Sinclair was born in Alameda County, California, USA to mother Delora Sherleen Sinclair, an astrologer. He never knew his biological father, and was raised in New York City by his mother and stepfather Irving Vincent, an acting coach and theatre manager. He has a younger brother and sister and a fraternal twin Paul Vincent who works as a film editor. He started his acting career by accident at the age of seven when he and a bunch of mates broke into a local theatre intent on vandalising the property, but were caught before they could by the Artistic Director, who offered the lads roles in an upcoming play, or, call the Police. They opted for the former option. That was in a children's play 'Dinosaur Door' produced at the Greenwich Village Theatre for the New City. His career onstage progressed to a New York Repertory Company run by his stepfather, and from there to Hunter College - a public university and part of the City University of New York where his skills in creative writing led him to an interest in screenwriting. By seventeen with a muscle toned build he was bouncing at several hip & trendy New York night spots, and it was then that he changed his name to Vin Diesel.

After three years majoring in English at Hunter College he dropped out and headed to Hollywood to make his acting fame and fortune - but this was no easy task, and after a year as a struggling actor he returned to New York. His screen debut came in an uncredited role on the Penny Marshall Directed film of 'Awakening' in 1990 with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. At about this time his mother gave him a book 'Feature Films at Used Car Prices' which motivated Diesel to take his destiny into his own hands. From here, in 1994 he Wrote, Produced, Directed and starred in his own semi-autobiographical short film 'Multi-Facial' about an actors struggle with the audition process. It screened at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. Three years later in 1997 Diesel Wrote, Produced, Directed and starred in his first fill length feature film 'Strays' which played in competition at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. The next year, on the strength of 'Multi-Facial' Steven Spielberg cast him in his WWII epic 'Saving Private Ryan'.

In 2000, he secured a major role in the Ben Affleck and Giovanni Ribisi film 'Boiler Room' with his breakout role coming later that same year as Riddick in the Sci-Fi actioner 'Pitch Black'. He would reprise the role in 2004 in 'The Chronicles of Riddick' teaming up again with Director David Twohy. Diesel also Produced the film. Whilst hardly a commercial success at the Box Office barely recovering its US$110M budget, it did well enough on the DVD after sales market, prompting a further sequel in 2013, 'Riddick' which again Diesel Produced and Twohy Directed this time for a more modest US$40M. A further instalment has recently been announced.

2001 saw his action hero status reach new heights in his first outing as Dominic Toretto in 'The Fast and the Furious' Directed by Rob Cohen for US$38M and returning US$207M so guaranteeing a follow-up. Diesel skipped 2003's sequel '2 Fast 2 Furious' and had an uncredited cameo in the 2006 'The Fast and the Furious : Tokyo Drift', but has appeared in all films since - in 2009's 'Fast & Furious'; 2011's 'Fast Five'; 2013 'Fast & Furious 6' and 2015's 'Furious 7'. So far all seven films have been made for a combined US$759M and have grossed worldwide US$3,90B. 'Furious 7' currently stands at the #7 ranking highest grossing films of all time at a haul of US$1,52B. 'Fast 8' is currently filming for a 2017 release, and 'Fast & Furious 9 and 10' have been announced for 2019 and 2021 respectively.

2002's 'xXx' also helped cement Diesel's action star status with his role being reprised in 2017's 'xXx : The Return of Xander Cage'. 2003 brought 'A Man Apart' Directed by F. Gary Gray; 2005 saw the action comedy 'The Pacifier' which returned US$199M from its US$56M outlay, and then 'Find Me Guilty' for Sidney Lumet in 2006 with Diesel playing mobster Giacomo DiNorscio - the subject of the longest Mafia court case in American history. 2008 saw 'Babylon A.D.' - a SciFi action film with Mark Strong, Gerard Depardieu and Michelle Yeoh. In 2009 he wrote, Produced, Directed and starred in the 20 minute short film 'Los Bandeleros' providing a back story for the characters and events leading up to the start of the fourth 'Fast & Furious' film, so bridging the gap between that film and 'Tokyo Drift'.

2014 saw the Marvel Cinematic Universe sleeper hit 'Guardians of the Galaxy' with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Diesel as the voice of 'Groot' - a tree like humanoid. The film made US$774M at the global Box Office, with a sequel now in post-production for a 2017 release.

'The Last Witch Hunter' was released in 2015 with Elijah Wood and Michael Caine which brings us up to date. Next up is Ang Lee's 'Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk' with Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Steve Martin and Chris Tucker due in November this year, and a whole bunch of sequels due over the next five years as already mentioned within this Post, including a fourth Riddick instalment with 'Furia' recently announced. All up Diesel has forty Acting credits to his name, 22 as Producer, five as Director and four as Writer. He has seven award wins and a further 26 nominations. He has also lent his voice talents to 'The Iron Giant' in 1999, several video games based on his character Riddick, and as 'Groot' in 'Guardian's of the Galaxy' and its follow up due early next year.

In 1995 he formed 'One Race Films' - a video production company behind many of his films, and with it a subsidiary company 'Tigon Studios' - a video game development business, and another subsidiary 'Racetrack Records' - a record label, music studio and production company. He has been in a long term relationship with Mexican born model Paloma Jimenez since 2007, and together they have three children - Hania Riley (born 2008), Vincent Sinclair (born 2010) and Pauline (born 2015) named after his good friend and 'Fast & Furious' Co-Star Paul Walker who died in November 2013.

Vin Diesel - he of the deep instantly recognisable voice, avid 'Dungeons and Dragons' player for 20+ years now, deeply private in his personal life, a lover and supporter of the Dominican Republic where he filmed 'Los Bandeleros', and the action star of four burgeoning film franchises still going strong after 15+ years and that keep audiences coming back for more - Happy Birthday to you Vin, from Odeon Online.

Christopher Michael Pratt was born in Virginia, Minnesota to mother Kathleen Louise Indahl, a supermarket worker, and father Daniel Clifton Pratt who worked in mining and latterly home renovation - he passed away last year. Pratt was raised in Lake Stevens, Washington with his two siblings Cully and Angie - both older than he. As a high school student he came fifth in the State Wrestling Championship, but had little clue about what to do with his life, except that he knew he would be famous and make lots of money. He dropped out of the local community college in his first semester and worked several jobs including as a daytime stripper, but ended up in Hawaii, homeless and living on a beach in Maui, sleeping rough and working just enough to eat, drink and smoke weed.

Working as a waiter at the 'Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Restaurant' the 19 year old Pratt was discovered by Actress and Director Rae Dawn Chong who cast him in her Directorial debut - the short horror film 'Cursed, Part 3'. That was 2000. In 2002 he was cast in 'Everwood' - the television series that ran until 2006 with his regular appearance as Harold Brighton Abbott over 89 episodes. When that show was cancelled he picked up a run of nine shows on 'The O.C.' in 2006 & 07, with 'Parks and Recreation' from 2009 up until this year and 117 episodes.

In the meantime, his early films included 'The Extreme Team' in 2003, 'Strangers with Candy' in 2005, 'Wieners' in 2008 and then action fantasy offering 'Wanted' also in 2008 with Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman. 'Bride Wars' followed in 2009 with Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway with 'Deep in the Valley' and 'Jennifer's Body' that same year.

In 2007 Pratt met his future wife, Anna Faris whilst filming 'Take Me Home Tonight', although this film wasn't released until 2011 due to the Studio delaying its release because of its drug related subject matter. He went on to the acclaimed Brad Pitt vehicle 'Moneyball' in 2011, then 'What's Your Number' and '10 Years' also that year. Next up was 'The Five Year Engagement' and 'Zero Dark Thirty' in 2012, with 'Delivery Man' and then the lauded 'Her' with Joaquin Phoenix and a big name cast.

He had previously auditioned for lead roles in both 'Star Trek' as Captain James T. Kirk, and 'Avatar' as Jake Sully but was declined for both. When the role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord came along he was very apprehensive for going for the role fearing a repeat of those earlier two let downs. However, Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios was won over by Pratt and so 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was released in 2014 to critical acclaim and huge Box Office takings that surprised just about everyone. Pratt signed a multi-film deal with Marvel so expect a sequel in 2017, and possible film cross-overs into the Marvel Universe in the years ahead. He also voiced Emmet Brickowski in 'The Lego Movie' that same year which also brought critical and commercial success.

His lead role in the very recently released 'Jurassic World' as Owen Grady will further cement his star status. Made for US$150M this film has already grossed US$731M as at 19th June and has taken the biggest opening weekend Box Office receipts of all time. Next up is 'Passengers' currently in pre-production for a 2016 release, and then the Antoine Fuqua remake of 'The Magnificent Seven' due in 2017 and currently filming. To date Pratt has garnered five award wins and another nineteen nominations.

He dated his 'Everwood' co-star Emily VanCamp before meeting his wife Anna Faris whom he married in Bali in 2009 - together they have a son Jack, born in 2012.

Chris Pratt - a fluent German speaking star on the rise; tall, handsome, and a little goofy; and someone who doesn't take himself too seriously - Happy Birthday to you, from Odeon Online.

Zoe Yadira Saldana Nazario was born in Passaic, New Jersey to mother Asalia Nazario, a Puerto Rican, and father Aridio Saldana from the Dominican Republic. She grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York speaking English and Spanish. Zoe has two sisters Cisely and Mariel and a half brother Nipo. At nine years of age, the young Zoe's father died in a car crash, at which point the family moved to the Dominican Republic, where she developed a keen interest in dance in its many forms. After her 10th grade year she returned to New York with the family and began performing with the Brooklyn based 'FACES' Theatre Group. Following a performance of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' in which she took part, the teenage Saldana was recruited by a talent agency, which gave rise to her 2000 big screen debut in 'Centre Stage'.

Her small screen debut came the year before in two episodes of 'Law and Order'. On the strength of the New York set Ballet Dance Academy film 'Centre Stage' Saldana left school and appeared in the Brittany Spears comedy/drama/road movie 'Crossroads' and later that same year in 'Drumline'.

The next year in 2003 came 'Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl' playing Anamaria - a female pirate. From there followed 'The Terminal' with Tom Hanks as Directed by Steven Spielberg, and then 'Haven' with Orlando Bloom and then 'Temptation'.

2005 produced average fare 'Constellation', 'Guess Who', ' Dirty Deeds', and then 'Premium' and 'The Heart Specialist' in 2006 and in 2007 'After Sex' and 'Blackout'. 'Vantage Point' was a bigger hit in 2008 with an all star cast, although Saldana's character is killed off early on in the piece.

2009 however, was the year that was to propel Saldana into the stratosphere - literally, with two epic Sci-Fi adventures that established her star status. The first was J.J.Abrams reboot of the 'Star Trek' franchise in which she payed the role of Nyota Uhura. Seeking support, advice and guidance along the way from two women of influence - Nichelle Nichols who made the role famous and her own back in the 60's television show and in the first run of successful spin-off movies, and the second, her own mother - a self confessed Trekkie! That film made US$386M. Then of course there was the history making James Cameron epic Sci-Fi adventure 'Avatar' in which she played the lead female character of Neytiri. Grossing an all time record breaking US$2.7B the film picked up numerous awards including The Saturn Award for Best Actress - not so bad for an all CG character!

'The Losers' was next in 2010 and then 'Takers', 'Death at a Funeral', and 'Burning Palms' with 'Colombiana' in 2011 as a professional assassin and then 'The Words' a year later. 'Blood Ties' and 'Star Trek : Into Darkness' followed in 2013 with the latter once again Directed by J.J.Abrams and once again reprising her role as Uhura, with this film going on to outstrip its 2009 predecessor with a global Box Office haul of US$468M. 'Out of the Furnace' with Christian Bale and 'Infinitely Polar Bear' with Mark Ruffalo followed.

The unexpected smash hit of 2014 was Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' which grossed US$774M  with Saldana playing Gamora - this time in green rather than her 'Avatar' blue!

Next up for Saldana is 'Nina' due for release later in 2015 playing the role of legendary jazz singer Nina Simone. Then there will be 'Star Trek 3' currently filming and 'Live by Night' in 2016 and currently in pre-production there is 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' for a 2017 release and then 'Avatar 2, 3 and 4' due in 2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Saldana has 45 acting credits to her name, two Producer credits and two Director credits and she has garnered eleven award wins and another 41 nominations so far.

In June 2010 Saldana became engaged to long term boyfriend and business partner in 'My Fashion Data Base' Keith Britton but that relationship ended in late 2011 with Bradley Cooper becoming the love interest until early in 2013. Mid-year she married Marco Perego and in November 2014 their twin sons were born Bowie Ezio and Cy Aridio.

Zoe Saldana - a self confessed lover of the Sci-Fi genre; athletic, determined, personable, respected and beautiful; pushing the boundaries of her capabilities; and earning many friends and fans along the way - Happy Birthday to you from Odeon Online.

What's new in Odeon's this week - Thursday 7th August 2014.

Just three new offerings hitting our big screens this week, but still plenty of cinematic content counting on your support from weeks gone by that are sure to ensure all ages, all tastes and all genres are well provided for. This week at your local Odeon you can catch the latest from the Comic Book giant as the action jumps off the page and onto the silver screen in a change of direction from this powerhouse of Superhero talent. We also have an ageing RomCom to delight the fans of this genre that pitches two Hollywood heavyweights together with a youngster thrown in to bind the two together . . . maybe! And then we have an unusual pairing set amidst the street music of New York that could be described as a musical RomCom . . . maybe!

So whatever your taste in movies, whether you are young or not so young, whether you like your films big and epic or small and personal, there is always something for you at the movies. And when you have sat through the film of your choice, finished your popcorn, and downed that bucket of brown fizzy sludge - drop me a line in the 'comments' box, and let my other Reader know what you thought of the whole experience!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Rated M) - this film has been hyped to the Nth degree already and really, that is hardly surprising! Marvel Studios have done great things with their portfolio of Superheroes - Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, The Avengers, Spiderman all have been huge success stories and all have brought in massive box office, and will continue to do so as future instalments are produced. As for 'Guardians of the Galaxy' - this is a real departure from their tried and tested formula, but you can be sure that at some future date there may well be a melding of the latter with those of the former in a Marvelverse far far away!

This story is set out there in space, and could almost be described as Marvel's stab at it's own attempt at 'Star Wars'. Directed by James Gunn we have five characters who are said 'Guardians' - and included in that line up is a walking tree, a gun totting Racoon, a green woman and a hulking maniac and the leader of this rag tag bunch of intergalactic miscreants is a thief who is actually human, and transported from the 80's! Our thief is Peter 'Star Lord' Quill (Chris Pratt) thrown together with green skinned assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket (the genetically engineered Racoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot (the walking tree person voiced by Vin Diesel). When Quill steals an orb that is much coveted by the treacherous Ronan the Accuser, the latter becomes mightily upset and sets about to steal it from Quill for himself. To counteract this Quill enlists the support of his four new friends to fight Ronan and save the galaxy and our world from his villainous power. Also starring an impressive cast including Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Rooker and Djimon Hounsou this is a big budget (US$170M) epic that looks huge and impressive on screen, and given Marvel's pedigree, this is sure to do well - as the early indications already suggest!

BEGIN AGAIN (Rated M) - Directed and Written by John Carney this could be described as a love letter to New York, to music, to family, to relationships, and to the beauty of life thrust together in unusual circumstances and when you least expect it! Sounds like a Woody Allen film . . . but no! Here we have failing music A&R man Dan (Mark Ruffalo) who hits a bar to drown his sorrows and stumbles across dejected heartbroken sorrowful Greta (Keira Knightley) who has just separated from her long term boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine from Maroon 5) who has just been signed to a major record label. Greta is an occasional song writer and performer, and hearing her dulcet tones on stage Dan is instantly bowled over by her raw talent. So much so that they decide to record an album on the streets and alleyways of New York using the city's ambient everyday sounds and the street talent they come across. Bonded by their love of music, the relationships all around them that work with them and against them, and the soundtrack of the city to inspire them, this is a heartfelt uplifting tale that is sure to please those that like a slower, easier, engaging pace.

AND SO IT GOES (Rated M) - Directed by Rob Reiner and starring Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton this is the tale of Oren Little (Douglas) who is a successful Real Estate Agent but opinionated, obnoxious and stubborn and on the verge of retirement, but wanting to make one last big sale so that he can do so even more comfortably. One day his estranged son drops off a nine year old girl who just turns out to be the granddaughter he never knew he had, Sarah (Sterling Jerins) and being clueless in the ways of relating to a little person he palms her off to the loving, warm, approachable neighbour Leah (Diane Keaton), so that he can continue with his comfortable existence in just the way he likes it. But, where would the story be in that? Over time, we see the warmer, human, more engaging side of Oren begin to unfold as his guard is let down, his heart opened up, and his feeling runs free for life, for Leah, for Sarah and his family.

Three new releases then to get you out to your local multiplex or independent cinema and enjoy some big screen entertainment. When you've done that, share your thoughts on this Blog . . . you know where!
